Casting Call for “The Wanderer” Film

| Monday, June 29, 2009

Film: “The Wanderer”
Writer & Director: Jonathan Millard
Production Company: Passion Drive Pictures

Producers:
Logan Highlen
Dustin Hutchinson
Jonathan Millard
Tony Pisano
Cierra Wiley

Hello friends and fellow filmmakers. This is a casting announcement I am making for Passion Drive Pictures first and upcoming film “The Wanderer.” Its a sci-fi/adventure/horror film we will be making for the Phoenix International Horror and Sci-Fi film festival that will be held next year in 2010. As well as any other genre film festival that may be going on around the country next year. It will be a feature length film. People who have seen our past work may recognize us as JTL Productions.

We will be holding our first auditions on SUNDAY JUNE 21st. We do not have a location yet, but we will by the time that date comes around. A majority of the film will be shot in Peoria/Glendale, weekends after dark. If you are interested in auditioning for a role, please email our Casting Director Cierra Wiley at:

People who email us need to make an appointment and tell us what role they will be auditioning for on that date so we can prepare sides for a cold read at the audition. We will also be REQUIRING a head-shot and resume’ on the day of the audition.

This movie consists of two stories in one, written in my personal style “Multiple Character Flashback Narrative.” This first audition will be for all the characters apart of the flash-backed story in the film. Both stories are just as equally strong and relate to each other directly.

Below are character descriptions, and the Log-line for the film. On a side note, this project is not a paid job. We are a student production company based out of ASU and all the money we spend on the project will be for production.

Thank You
- Jonathan Millard

Log line: In the world after the 2012 nuclear apocalypse a community of survivors fight the new horrors of the world for their survival.

The Survivors

Kristine Grier: (Aged 18-23) Kristine or KRIS, is a young athletic girl. Relatively upbeat attitude. Her character is in both stories in the film. She is age 46 in the present tense story, and ages 18 and 23 in the flash-backed story. She can be played by the same actress.

Keith Grier: (Age 40-45) Married to Sandra Grier, father to Kristine (Kris) and Jonas Grier. He is middle aged, and a very smart man. He tends to take control in dire situations and appears to be very distant with his family. He is a smoker.

Doctor Allan Dines: (Aged 24-30) A brilliant scientist and doctor who is wasting his skills being trapped in the new life he was given. Has a very pessimistic attitude and a deep fear of violence and social issues. If something is bothering him, he keeps it under his hat.

The Marines

Sergeant Leroy Bernette (Age 26) Leroy is a very down to earth person who puts his life on the line for the people he cares about. Has the qualities of a hero and Leader. Love interest of Kristine.

Shane is a very caring young man, fearful of losing Kris. Later to become Nightmare, he is a murderous, psychotic, cannibal mutant who has demon like qualities.

Casting Call for short film “Other Wise”

Identity is a hard thing to discover.
Aiguo’s story starts after being born in China to Caucasian American parents. He comes to the United States to study at an inner city university. Though he is mugged, pushed to the ground, and at times neglected, Aiguo Johnson learns something no other trip could have taught him…

We are a fun, optimistic, and happy production company. This is a low/no budget film. Talent will receive meals, screen credit, and a valuable experience. This is not a student film; we have a director, producer, cinematographer, editor, and crew that work in the industry. This is a 12 page script and most roles will consist of 1-2 shooting days.

Race: Asian
Language: English and Mandarin Chinese*
Mr. Rong is a Chinese male in his 50’s who moved to America in his late 30’s. He is a stern, conservative, well educated individual who is able to speak Mandarin Chinese and English and has one son by the name of Min.

Casting call for “Family Symmetry” (NYC, Saturday, June 20th)

| Friday, June 19, 2009

My show, Family Symmetry, will be appearing in the Midtown International Theater Festival (MITF) next month. This is a non-union, non-paying gig, but the exposure is great and the script is solid (I wrote it, after all). The show is a drama in two acts and runs about 80 minutes.

I am looking for an actress to play Suzanne: a late 20s/early 30s Caucasian wife of an OCD husband. She is somewhat meek and timid, but not pathetic or whiny. She has been confined emotionally by her husband’s disorder for a few years, and the wear on her is showing. She had long-lost dreams of being a doctor or nurse, but gave them up for reasons largely withheld. Instead, she looks to Allen, her husband, as someone she can “fix”.

Casting Call is by appointment only on Saturday, June 20th (yes, this Saturday). Please only respond to this call ONLY if you a) are non-union, b) fit the aforementioned role, and c) can make ALL Tech and Performance Dates listed below. Please email me back with a head shot/resume and all times on Saturday you are available to meet. Scheduling will be done in 30-minute slots. No monologue required; sides will be provided. If interested, please respond to this email no later that Friday (tomorrow) at 9pm. Slots will be awarded on a first-emailed, first-served basis.

Rehearsals will be 1-2x/week depending on actor/director availability. Tech/Show Dates are as follows (times listed are actor call times; showtime are 30 minutes after call):

Brent Smith is a 38 year old water biologist / environmentalist who studied at USC / Los Angeles and graduated with a Masters degree in Environmental Studies. Brent, African American, lives alone in his household in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles and works for the Environmental Monitoring Department, for the City of Los Angeles; his office is based at the Hyperion Water Treatment Plant. He is part of 5 person team working on controlling the water quality as well as monitoring the social impact of the river for communities along the river. Brent is a very gentle and quiet person. Due to his thorough research methodologies, he is well respected among his colleagues and supervisor. Thus he has more freedom to conduct his research in the field. Brent’s retired parents live close to the banks of the Los Angeles River/ Compton Creek in Compton, a suburban area in South Los Angeles, known for its segregated African American communities in the 1960. Here is where Brent grew up and interacted with the river when he was a child. The relationship between Brent and his parents is honest, respectful and gentle. Most of the time they only communicate via phone, but some times Brent visits the family’s house.

Supporting role

Jill Selmour, in her early thirties, is a close friend of Brent and usually goes on trips with him. She engages herself sometimes in environmentalist activities, more so since she has lost her teaching job 2 months ago at a public school due to California State’s budget crisis. Jill teaches 6-8 graders in biology and math.

Supporting role

Nancy Ming is a supervising chemist employed by the Environmental Monitoring Department, City of Los Angeles and supervises a team of 5 biologists and environmentalists. Her office is also at the Hyperion Water Treatment Plant. Nancy grew up in Altadena and received her PhD at University of California, Los Angeles. Nancy is a gentle Asian American woman in her mid thirties and lives alone in Westside of Los Angeles. She is interested in having some sort of relationship with Brent, as she tries to socialize with him outside of work.

| Friday, June 5, 2009

Looking for actors who’d like to participate in a feature-length script reading on the afternoon of Saturday, May 2, approx. 2-4 hours.
This is a comedic caper about a pirate radio operator who takes on the world’s biggest media corporation with the help of a group of misfits, a broken-down RV and the ghost of Richard Nixon.

Project Title: MONKEYFISH

Cast Breakdown:

Zeke - Male, 30s: The pirate radio operation, broadcasting out of the back of an RV to avoid detection is his brainchild, and so is picking a fight with the world’s largest media conglomerate. He’s not a leader - he’s a ringleader.

Leroy Brown - Male, 30s: Real name Dr. Faraj Hamad, a leading aerospace engineer who moonlights by helping Zeke defend America’s airwaves from corporate greed.

Smonkey - Female, 20s/30s: She’s an activist determined to change the world, and while she’s not sure Monkeyfish qualifies as activism, it’s clear that the Lost Boys need Wendy.

Renzo - Male, 30s/40s: Owner of a car repair shop and reformed car thief, Renzo has set caution aside to help what he believes is a patriotic cause, and it’s by his efforts alone that the RV stays on the road.

Joel - Male, 20s: Talented videographer and amateur pornographer, Joel does most of the music and video programming for Monkeyfish.

Elswith-Murray - Male, 50s/60s: The CEO the world’s biggest media corporation, he’s Steve Jobs’ evil twin, his goal is to bring every broadcast signal on earth under his influence.

Auntie Liu - Female, 50s/60s: Zeke’s boss, she’s involved in anything as long as there’s cash to be had - seedy pawnshops, human smuggling, DVD pirating and crooked mortgages.

McCann - Female, 50s/60s: FBI Agent McCann is one of those few law enforcement officers who can look at a situation and instantly see the big picture. While it’s made her one of the top agents, it’s also made her a bit of an outsider.

Walid - Male, 30s: McCann’s partner, he’s also one of the FBI’s aces, and he’s peeved that he has to pull away from catching terrorists to deal with this apparently unimportant crime.

Eddie Chiu - Male, 20s/30s: He’s Liu’s business manager/loan processor/chief thug.

Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you!
